Economic Contributions to the Societal Experts Action Network
This project advances the work of the National Academy of Science’s Societal Experts Action Committee (SEAN) and provides research input to policy-makers who confront novel decisions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. SEAN is designed to deliver actionable research findings to such policy-makers. It convenes conferences on policy questions and commissions summary papers describing the state of knowledge on particular topics. This project supports economists’ contributions to the SEAN process by facilitating the preparation of what papers that that summarize key economic issues and the research that bears on them. The following white papers have been prepared in conjunction with this research project:
Erdal Tekin, American University and NBER
An Overview of the Child Care Market in the United States
Elizabeth U. Cascio, Dartmouth College and NBER
COVID-19, Early Care and Education, and Child Development
Stefania Albanesi, University of Pittsburgh and NBER
The Impact of the COVID-19 Recession on the US Labor Market: Occupation, Family, and Gender

This project is supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation under grant number G-2021-14121.
