Transforming Rural Africa

DATE: December 15, 2018 to May 15, 2020

The project will bring together cutting edge research offering a range of perspectives on the structural transformation process underway in rural Africa, especially drawing on micro-scale evidence from households and firms. The project, supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB), will inform several of the Bank’s priorities such as: Light up and power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialize Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the quality of life for the people of Africa.

Christopher B. Barrett, Co-Principal Investigator

Chris Barrett is the Stephen B. and Janice G. Ashley Professor of Applied Economics and Management and an international professor of agriculture at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, as well as a professor in the Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, all at Cornell University. His research interests are agricultural economics, development economics, food security, poverty, and resource economics.
