The Economics of Talent

DATE: March 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is hosting two conferences in 2024 and 2025 focused on the economics of talent, with the goal of fostering innovation and economic growth. These conferences bring together leading researchers from various subfields of economics, including development economics, education, growth, and innovation, to create a collaborative network dedicated to talent identification and development. While research in these areas is expanding, there has previously been no unified forum for exchange and collaboration. Held in locations such as Cambridge, MA, New York City, or Washington, DC, the conferences aim to catalyze new research initiatives and collaborations. By providing a platform for these discussions, NBER is strengthening the economics of talent field and facilitating further study and innovation.

Glenn Ellison is the Gregory K. Palm Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests include game theory, industrial organization, education, finance, economic geography, and academia.

Heidi L. Williams, Other

Heidi Williams is a Professor of Economics at Dartmouth College. Her research focuses on how society can best support science and innovation, and how we can best ensure that science and innovation generate broad benefits to society. She has been an NBER affiliate since 2010.
