The Review of Economics and Statistics (REStat) will sponsor five early-career researchers who can contribute to the diversity of the economics profession or the diversity of economic research to participate in the applied microeconomics research meetings at the 2024 NBER Summer Institute. Candidates can contribute to diversity in many ways, including membership in racial and ethnic groups that are under-represented in economics, being first-generation college graduates, and by demonstrated interest in expanding the set of research issues that are studied in economics.
In past years, economists from more than 400 institutions have presented and discussed new research findings at the meetings that collectively comprise the Summer Institute. Each REStat Fellowship will cover travel costs to attend this conference, and local hotel accommodations for up to four nights, up to a maximum of $2000. Travel reimbursements will be subject to the NBER’s travel regulations.
To be eligible for fellowship support, applicants must contribute to the diversity of the economics profession or to the range of topics it studies, must have received a Ph.D. in economics in 2014 or later, and must be conducting research in one of the following sub-fields of applied microeconomics: Economics of Aging, Economics of Children, Economics of Crime, Development Economics, Economics of Education, Energy and Environmental Economics, Health Economics, Labor Economics, Law and Economics, and Public Economics. Further detail on the 2024 NBER Summer Institute, including meeting dates, may be found here:

(ii) a curriculum vitae;
and
(iii) a recent research paper.

Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee consisting of Raymond Fisman (Boston University and NBER), Will Dobbie (Harvard University and NBER), and other REStat editors. The committee will place particular emphasis on the capacity of the applicant to benefit from the research exposure and interactions that the Summer Institute offers. Applicants will be notified of the committee’s decisions in early May.
