NBER Japan Project Meeting
Organized by Kosuke Aoki, Shiro Armstrong, Charles Yuji Horioka, and David Weinstein
Our annual general research conference on the Japanese economy will be held in Tokyo on August 4-5, 2026. The meeting will be jointly sponsored by the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Australia-Japan Research Centre at Australian National University, the Center for Advanced Research in Finance at the University of Tokyo, and the Center for Japanese Economy and Business at Columbia University.
There will be no formal theme for the conference, and we will choose papers based on our judgment of their quality. The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2026. If you are interested in presenting a paper, please upload a pdf file through this link:
https://conference.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=JPMs26
You may send an outline or extended abstract, but preference will be given to completed papers. We aim to make our choice of papers by mid-March.
We would appreciate it if you could pass this call for papers on to colleagues who might be interested. Papers by researchers with and without NBER affiliations and from researchers at all career stages are welcome.
On the day after the NBER Japan Project Meeting (August 6, 2026), there will be another conference on the Japanese economy organized by NBER (Alan Auerbach and Anil Kashyap) and ESRI (Economic and Social Research Institute) of the Japanese Government Cabinet Office. Participants in the NBER Japan Project Meeting will also be invited to this conference.
The conference will cover travel and hotel expenses for one author per paper and for discussants.
Questions about this conference may be addressed to confer@nber.org
We look forward to seeing your work and hope that you will join us in Tokyo next summer.
