Dissertation Fellow, Gender in the Economy
Description
NBER’s Gender in the Economy group, supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is offering three dissertation fellowships for doctoral students in economics and allied fields to encourage research on gender issues in the economies of developing and/or developed nations. Topics may include victimization and violence against women, household finance, women’s roles in health and education, gender and the labor market, economic development and female labor force participation, and women- and child-centered policies.
Fellows will be expected to participate in the Gender in the Economy meetings at the NBER Summer Institute.
Fellows will be selected based on their potential to make an important contribution to the field and given recommendations from our selection panel.
Compensation: Stipend of $42,500, plus $3,000 to support research costs, and $13,000 to defray tuition and fees.
Eligibility
- Full-time PhD student at a US or Canadian university.
- Must be advanced to dissertation candidacy status by the start of the fellowship.
Application Deadline
January 7, 2026. Fellowships will be announced in March 2026.
Application Requirements
- Curriculum vitae.
- Research proposal (maximum 3 pages double-spaced text, 2 pages tables/graphs, 1-page references) describing an independent research proposal on gender in the economy.
- One recommendation letter.
