Top Level Domains Eligible for Free NBER WP Downloads

The NBER sells subscriptions to its online working paper series, but offers free service to residents of developing countries and transition economies. Natural-resource rich countries are not on this list.

Here is a list of the country-code domains currently eligible for free downloads of NBER working papers. If your computer is in one of these domains, you should be offered a download on the bibliographic page for the paper. If that doesn't happen, it is probably because your network does not support Reverse Name Lookup . Without that facility on your network, we can't learn what your domain name is. However, if you select on the `Information for subscribers and others expecting free downloads' link you will be given the opportunity to give us your email address, and we will email you a URL for the paper.

Another way we can recognize your country is from our list of IP addresses in the countries listed below. If you browse http://www.nber.org/reverse.html and forward the IP address from the end of that page to feenberg@nber.org, he will add your ISP to the list of authorized IP addresses.

If you live in one of these countries, but your email address has a three character domain like 'com' or 'net', and our computer doesn't recognize your IP address, it will not offer the full-text option. You can get around this problem by using an alternative email address (perhaps a friend has a country code address?). Lastly, you can always buy the papers from SSRN.COM. The link is on the bibliographic page.
