Innovation PolicyThe “Global Science” Research Project Investigators: Paula Stephan (Georgia State University and NBER), Chiara Franzoni (Politecnico di Milano) and Giuseppe Scellato (Politecnico di Torino). Sponsors: The “Global Science” project is supported in part by a grant from the Regional Government of the Piedmont Region (Italy) under the Social Science and Humanities program 2009. Data collection: Data for the “Global Science” project are being collected by survey. The survey can be accessed (by invitation only) at the https://dispea.qualtrics.com
Summary of Results: Foreign Born Scientists: Mobility Patterns for Sixteen Countries (NBER Working Paper 18067) The survey is directed to scientists and engineers in four disciplinary areas: materials science, biology, chemistry and earth & environmental science. Individuals have been selected into the panel based on their being a corresponding author of an article in one of four fields during 2009. The sampling procedure randomly chooses 30% of journals that the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) classifies in each of these fields and in each quartile of the Impact Factor distribution. The survey is being sent to scientists and engineers in 16 different countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, UK, and the USA. The primary language of the survey is English. The survey is also available in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish. Data release: A summary of the results will be made available to the public at this URL in the fall of 2011. The data will be analyzed and scientific articles will be written based on the results during the 2012 and 2013 academic years. Release of data to the international scientific community is envisaged in the summer of 2015. Contact information: Chiara Franzoni; Giuseppe Scellato; Paula Stephan . |
