The NBER Summer Institute is widely regarded as one of the most important annual meetings of the economics research community. It brings together many of the leading researchers who are studying macroeconomics, labor markets, financial economics, public finance, international trade, and many other fields to discuss the most pressing current economic issues and to share and evaluate the latest research findings. One of the most important features of the Summer Institute is the opportunity for informal interactions between researchers during conference breaks and at dinner. This is much easier in person than on a virtual platform.
