Long Term Asset Management Lecture
2023, Long-Term Asset Management Keynote, Laura Veldkamp, "Valuing Data as a New Asset Type"
Presenter
Laura Veldkamp, Columbia University, Graduate School of Business
Anecdotal evidence suggests that large datasets collected and analyzed by firms are increasingly important sources of company valuations. But how can one quantify the value of data, or of the software and other analytical tools that enable firms to monetize it? In a keynote lecture delivered at the 2023 New Directions in Long-Term Asset Management conference, Laura Veldkamp of Columbia Business School describes a number of approaches to valuing data. She also observes that the ever-expanding role of data can upend traditional insights in corporate finance, industrial organization, and other fields.
