Dear IO Program Members -

I am very grateful to the many IO program members who have made time in
recent weeks to talk with me about the factors that have contributed to
the program's success, and to identify important considerations in the
program director transition. I have learned a great deal about current
developments and directions in the field through this process.

I am delighted to announce that Jonathan Levin of Stanford has agreed to
serve as the next director of the IO program. Jon, who is the Holbrook
Working Professor of Price Theory at Stanford, has been an NBER
affiliate since 2005. He has wide-ranging interests within industrial
organization, including e-commerce, auction design, contract theory, and
the functioning of insurance markets. He is one of the leading applied
economists in any field, the recipient of the 2011 John Bates Clark
Medal, and a dedicated provider of professional public goods. He
recently completed a term as department chair at Stanford, and he is an
elected member of the AEA Executive Committee. I look forward to
working with Jon as he leads the IO program, and I hope that you will
join me in welcoming him to this new role.

All best wishes.
