Dear IO Program Members -

I am writing to follow up on Nancy Rose's recent email announcing her
plans to step down from the IO program directorship before she is
appointed Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis in
early September.

I hope that you will join me in thanking Nancy for her extraordinary
leadership of the IO program. Nancy launched the program at Marty
Feldstein's request in 1991, and she has done a remarkable job of
directing it over the last 23 years. Nancy is the NBER's second
longest-serving program director; she has guided the program through a
period marked by dramatic advances in the field of industrial
organization, along with significant changes in both methodology and
research focus. The members of the NBER Board of Directors, and I, look
forward to her report on program activities next month. I will make
sure to find a time at a future program meeting when we can collectively
thank Nancy for her contributions.

In the coming weeks, I will be reaching out to a number of program
members for advice on selecting Nancy's successor. Please feel free to
send me your suggestions. I am confident that we will be able to
recruit a new program director who will build on Nancy's legacy. I look
forward to hearing from you; all best wishes.
