Everyone,

Refer to the messages below. The reason for holding the spring meeting in Bethesda instead of at the Bureau in Cambridge is explained in those messages. Note that it is likely that only five papers will be presented, instead of six, because of the roundtable involving NIH staff. Note also that invitations to non-HE Program members to attend the meeting may have to be limited because of attendance by NIH staff. Mike

I apologize for sending the message below again. It bounced to Agnes Rupp and Xingzhu Liu because of a typing error in their email addresses. It also bounced to Martin Brown who no longer is in the HHS directory. He formerly was Chief of the Health Services and Economics Branch at NCI. It appears as if he was replaced by Ann Geiger. I am adding her to the list of people who are receiving this message. Finally, I forgot to include Susan Yanovski in the distribution list of the previous message and am doing so in this message. Everyone,

With regard to the message below, the meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, Maryland (http://bethesda.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.com) on Friday, April 11. You will receive a formal invitation to attend and information about the program in late February or early March.

I have added a number of people to those who received my message below of June 9. If there are other people who you would like me to invite, please feel free to send me their names and email addresses.

A call for papers will be sent out today. The program will be finalized around February 20.

Typically six papers are presented at the spring meeting of the NBER Health Economics Program. At the April 11 meeting, I am hoping to have a roundtable session at which NIH and possibly AHRQ staff would discuss their research priorities. The roundtable would be one of the six sessions, so only five papers would be presented. Perhaps Richard Suzman, Rebecca Clark, Sarah Duffy, Agnes Rupp, Greg Bloss, and Mike Hagan or Mike Fitzmaurice would be willing to participate in the roundtable or select others from their respective agencies to participate in it. If people who are receiving this message but who I did mention would also like to participate, that would be fine. Please let me know about this.

Happy New Year and Best regards,
Mike

Subject: Invitation to Attend 2014 Spring Meeting of NBER Health Economics Program
Everyone,

Each spring the National Bureau of Economic Research Health Economics Program holds a meeting that takes the form of a workshop at which six papers are presented. There are no formal discussants but a lot of discussion of each paper by the participants. In the past the meeting has been held at the main office of the Bureau in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2014 the meeting will be held in Bethesda, Maryland on Friday, April 11, 2014. NBER President Jim Poterba and I want to hold the meeting at that location to give NIH and AHRQ staff the opportunity to attend. I will provide more details concerning the meeting, including a formal invitation to attend, in a few months. In the meantime, if you would like other staff to be invited, please let me know.

Best regards,
Mike
