V. V. Chari of the Department of Economics at the University of Minnesota would like you to know about the attached call for papers (also pasted below so that you don’t have to open the pdf). In general, he’d also like you to know that their new Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute (HHEI) has been active in promoting high quality research and that one of their priority areas is The Economics of Climate Change. At their conference in the fall they are expecting participation from good economists such as Lars Hansen, Tom Sargent and others.

Thanks, Don

Developing the Next Generation of Economic Models of Climate Change

September 11-12, 2014

Organizers: Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute, University of Minnesota

CALL FOR PAPERS

Climate change is perhaps the seminal issue that will confront the world in the 21st century. Solving this problem effectively and efficiently will require us to harness the power of markets in channeling private incentives towards socially beneficial ends.

To advance the economic models available to address climate change, the Heller-Hurwicz Economics Institute (HHEI) will hold a conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota on “Developing the Next Generation of Economic Models of Climate Change.” Some of the papers from this conference will be selected as contributed chapters in an edited book.

Examples of subjects that might be studied in papers for this conference include, but are not limited to:
1. Economic modeling of climate change
2. Accounting for risk and uncertainty in carbon pricing
3. Quantitative models of alternative policies for pricing carbon
4. The relative merits of tax policy versus carbon emission rights in addressing climate change

Meeting participants will be chosen based on the manuscripts that they have submitted. The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2014. Authors chosen to present papers will be notified by July 1, 2014. HHEI will pay the domestic travel and hotel expenses for one author per paper as well as for discussants at the conference.

Please email abstracts that you would like to be considered for this conference, no later than June 15, 2014, to hhei_at_umn.edu.
