Dear EEE members:

I'm writing with good news about promotions of several of our members from Faculty Research Fellow (FRF) to Research Associate (RA), including Michael Anderson (Berkeley), Alan Barreca (Tulane), Nicholas Muller (Middlebury), and Michael Price (GSU). Congratulations! These promotions were just approved by the NBER Board of Directors at their Fall meeting.

Watch for an email from Jim Poterba later, about a February deadline to nominate young scholars for appointment as FRF in the spring. You can make such nominations at any time, however, by sending me an email. We can normally appoint three new FRF's per year within EEE, a small fraction of those nominated. In addition, someone who is already a FRF or RA in a different NBER program can be cross-listed with EEE. In fact, we will shortly welcome Richard Hornbeck (Harvard) from the Development of the American Economy (DAE) program. Rick will now also be in EEE.

The Spring EEE meeting will be Thurs-Friday March 26-27 in Cambridge, organized by Matt Kahn and me. A portion of that meeting will be joint with the Urban Economics Working Group, directed by Ed Glaeser. The call for papers will appear in about December and will ask for submissions that might be of interest to both EEE and the Urban group for those joint presentations, plus other EEE papers for the other EEE-only portions of our meeting.

Have a nice Fall semester, and I'll hope to see you at the ASSA meeting in Boston.

Thanks, Don
