Dear NBER DEV members

Please join me in welcoming

       Ach Adhvaryu, Michigan
       Kenny Ajayi, Boston University
       Leo Bursztyn, Chicago
       Kate Casey, Stanford
       Sylvain Chassang, NYU
       Oeindrila Dube, Chicago
       Johannes Haushofer, Princeton
       Kelsey Jack, Tufts
       Anant Nyshadham, Boston College

who have joined DEV. Several are already members of other NBER programs. It is
a tremendous pleasure for me to welcome all of our new members to DEV.

DEV will meet at the Summer Insitute this year from the afternoon of Sunday, 23
July through lunch on Tuesday 25 July. I am very grateful to Eric Edmonds,
Seema Jayachandran, Rob Jensen, Ben Olken and Chris Udry, who served on the
program selection committee with me. We had a 25% increase in the number of
papers submitted relative to last year and a really tough selection process has
become brutal. The program is here: http:// papers.nber.org/sched/SI17DEV

The master lecture experiment we tried last year was very popular and so
we are continuing the lectures this year with Mark Rosenzweig who will
speak on "Migration and Risk" and Michael Kremer on "Behavioral Economics
and Development." You should have received an invitation from Rob Shannon
to participate in SI; please let me know if you have not received an
invitation. I very much hope you will be able to join us.

Our Fall program meeting, which is joint with BREAD, will be held on Friday 7
December and Saturday 8 Decemember in Cambridge, MA. A call for papers will be
distributed in the late summer.

Best wishes, Duncan
