Dear All:
We are expecting lower than usual activity during July 4th holiday and are going to take that opportunity
to performance some maintenance work on our servers and systems.
When: Sunday, July 4, 2021 from 9:00 AM to about 5:00 PM EST.
What is being done:
* upgrade of OS on computing servers
* upgrade of OS and hardware replacement on storage server behind the VPN.
* upgrade of Virtual Machine OS and utilities affecting Accounting and other staff systems
What will be affected:
* standard (non-VPN - servers nber0 ... nber9) compute servers will be rebooted.
We will get these done before noon so after noon it should be safe to start long-running jobs again
Tunnel service for Remote Desktop will also be down until the above servers are rebooted.
* the servers behind the VPN will remain down through out the scheduled downtime
because the storage server will be repaired and upgraded.
* The accounting servers will be down, including PSA for timesheet entry & FCOI.
What will not be affected:
* the internet uplink at 1050 Mass Ave will remain up
* the public web site www.nber.org [www.nber.org] and all back office web functions, including WP
submission, admin/tools, etc, will remain up
* email will remain up
