Dear International Trade and Investment (ITI) Program Members :

Rob Feenstra, who has been an outstanding leader of the ITI program
since its launch in 1991, has informed me that he plans to step down
from this role when he reaches the twenty-five year mark next summer.
Rob has played a central part in building an intellectually vibrant
program and in shaping the NBER's activities that relate to
international trade, cross-border investment patterns, international
economic measurement issues, and many related topics. I am very
grateful to Rob for his tireless efforts and dedication to advancing the
ITI program and the NBER mission more generally.

Please save Wednesday evening, July 13, 2016 -- the Wednesday of the
first week of NBER Summer Institute -- for a festive dinner when we will
gather in Cambridge to thank Rob for his program leadership. I hope
that you will make every effort to attend. Further details will be
included with Summer Institute meeting invitations in early 2016.

In the coming months, I plan to reach out to many ITI program members to
solicit advice on selecting the next program director. I hope that you
will not hesitate to contact me and to share your views about the
essential attributes of Rob's successor. I would also welcome
suggestions about potential candidates who might be well suited to this
role.

Thank you for your advice and input. All best wishes.

Jim Poterba
