Dear ITI group:
Several weeks ago I sent around a message asking for a vote on the timing of the 2012 ITI summer institute, since there was an opening in the first week, which is July 9-13 (we would end on July 12, if we choose to end on Thursday). The tally was that 24 people voted in favor (one of these was weak); 11 people voted against (one of these was strong and cannot attend in the July week); and 3 people were indifferent.
Given these results, I propose that we go ahead and try meeting in the first week of the summer institute in 2012, July 9-13. I realize that this will pose an inconvience to some, and regret that. But there was strong enough sentiment expressed in favor that I believe it is worth trying. Of course, if a majority of people like this change, that will lead to the question of what we do in the future. I cannot resolve that question now except to say that we would have extensive discussion before making any permanent change.
So, I look forward to seeing you at the summer institute in early July next year.
