TWO POSITIONS AT THE IMF'S RESEARCH DEPARTMENT

Dear Colleague,

I would like to bring to your attention two openings at the Trade and
Investment Division of the International Monetary Fund's Research
Department.

Economist/Senior Economist Position

The division is looking for a highly-motivated PhD economist who can
deliver high-quality research and review work in the area of
international economics. Individuals who are not trade specialists but
are otherwise talented researchers with a willingness to learn are also
encouraged to apply. The responsibilities include a mixture of
self-initiated research, directed research, and review work consistent
with the division's mandate. The division in turn provides mentoring and
budgetary resources to support the individual's work, including some
funds to attend relevant research conferences and to acquire databases
needed. The successful candidate will start with a 3-year contract
initially and may receive a "permanent" contract at the end of the third
year.

* An ideal candidate is someone with more than two years of
experience beyond a PhD degree in economics from a major research
university, and has a proven record of excellence in research.
* The Fund pays a competitive salary plus generous benefits. The
exact job title depends on the candidate's experience.
* Nationals of any IMF member country can apply.
Interested candidates should send an email to Patricia Medina
(pmedina@imf.org) by April 24, 2006, with a vitae and an indication of
available starting time. Please indicate which position you are applying
for in the subject line of the email. You are welcome to forward this
information to others. Only shorted-listed candidates will be contacted.
Research Assistant Position

The IMF's Trade and Investment Division is looking for a full-time
research assistant, to be based at the headquarters in Washington DC, on
a 1-2 year contract. An ideal candidate is a PhD student who has
excellent training in econometrics and economics, is very competent with
statistical softwares, especially STATA, and is responsible and
meticulous. The work will expose the successful candidate to important
issues in international economic policies as well as relevant databases.
The IMF pays a competitive salary plus benefits. Nationals of any IMF
member country can apply. The successful candidate will start in July or
August, 2006.

If you know someone whom you would recommend, please have him/her send
an email to Patricia Medina (pmedina@imf.org) by April 24, 2006, with a
vitae, names and contact information of three references, and an
indication of available starting time and preferred contract length.
Please indicate clearly which position the application is for in the
subject line of the email. You are welcome to forward this information
to others. Please note only shorted-listed candidates will be contacted.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Shang-Jin Wei
