Subject: Winter Intern and RA Positions at the IMF

1. Through the IMF's winter internship program, the Trade and Investment
Division of the Research Department plans to recruit a winter intern to
assist with empirical projects on regional trade blocs and/or economic
reforms in developing countries. An ideal candidate is a student in the
third or fourth year in a well-respected PhD program in economics, who
is self-motivated, creative, meticulous, with a solid training in
economics and econometrics, and an interest in trade-related topics.
Winter interns spend up to 13 weeks in residence at the IMF headquarters
in Washington DC, starting sometime during November-January. The IMF
pays approximately $4500/month, airfare to DC and medical insurance.
Historically, excellent performance on internship gives the candidates
some advantage in subsequent job applications. There is no restriction
on nationality.

If you have a good student whom you would recommend, please send me a
short email of recommendation and also have the student send me an email
with supportive material (e.g., transcript) through Christy Gray at
cgray@imf.org by July 8.

2. The Research Department is also recruiting either a full-time or a
half-time research assistant to work at the IMF headquarters for one
year starting around mid-August, 2005. An ideal candidate is someone who
has finished a Masters program or is currently in a good PhD program,
responsible, meticulous, well-trained in econometrics, and good with
statistical/econometric softwares. The IMF's Human Resource Department
restricts our search to people in the greater Washington DC area and
will not pay moving expenses to DC for this position. The salary is
around $40,000-45,000/year depending on qualifications. If you know any
suitable candidate who can have an address in the greater Washington DC
area, please have him/her send an email application to Mary Amiti at
mamiti@imf.org by June 24.

Thank you very much for your help,
Shang-Jin Wei
