Dear Industrial Organization Program Members -

I am very grateful to the many program members who have made time in the
last month, since Jon Levin's appointment as the next dean of Stanford
GSB was announced, to advise me on the IO program director transition.
This has given me an opportunity to learn about the latest directions of
research activity, and also about the exciting range of future
opportunities for the program.

I am delighted to announce that Liran Einav of Stanford University has
agreed to serve as the next IO program director. Liran, a Professor of
Economics at Stanford, has been an NBER affiliate since 2005. He has
been a very active member of the IO program, working on a range of
topics that include the role of asymmetric information in health
insurance and loan markets, the economics of on-line marketplaces, and
the economic performance of the motion picture industry. Since 2012,
Liran has been a co-director of the NBER Insurance Working Group, a role
that he will relinquish when he becomes IO program director on September
1. Please join me in welcoming him to this new role.

I hope to see you at IO program dinner at the NBER Summer Institute this
Friday evening, July 22. We will gather at 6:15pm at the Hotel Marlowe
in Cambridge, and take this opportunity to mark this leadership
transition. All best wishes.
