Over the past year, I've seen a number of very interesting papers presented
by NBER IO program members at our meetings (and outside seminars). I've
also received a number of interesting submissions for the Summer Institute
from program members (thanks!).

Unfortunately, only a fraction of these pass my desk as NBER IO program
working papers. Last year, there were only 22 papers listed in the NBER
IO series, and only 14 of these papers included an author in the IO
program. My thanks to those of you who have taken time to put out papers in
the series.

For those of you with papers that have not been submitted to the NBER WP
series. I am writing with my STRONG encouragement to take a couple of
hours out of your busy schedule to print out your working papers, download
the WP submission form from the NBER website,

http://www.nber.org/forms/submis.pdf

and submit the papers for inclusion in the series. The ability to
disseminate work as an NBER WP is counted as an important benefit of NBER
membership. Moreover, it is difficult to show that the NBER IO program is
as alive and thriving as we think it is when the observable output of our
researchers isn't there to back it up. And it is increasingly difficult to
explain during program reviews why so many program members seem to have
such limited NBER interaction (i.e., little beyond attending 1 or 2
meetings per year). I appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Nancy
