  • The next NSF deadline is January 15, 2000 Some facts about NSF and NIH projects at the NBER:
    • We have a relatively low indirect cost rate of 52% (applied to salaries and fringe only).
    • Project Investigators receive a pension contribution equal to 20% of any salary they receive from a government grant.
    • We are available to assist you with proposal and report preparation.

    • Congratulations to James Heckman and Daniel McFadden who were awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics. For the full story, please visit The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. You may also read an NIH Press Release regarding these awards.

    • Greg Mankiw recently stepped down as the director of the Monetary Economics program. Greg was the first director after the program was created from the previous program on Financial Markets and Monetary Economics. He has provided strong intellectual leadership as program director and helped to shape an active and exciting group. We are pleased to announce that Ben Bernanke has agreed to succeed Greg as Program Director.


    Fellowship Opportunities
    • NBER National Fellowships are available to NBER Faculty Research Fellows. Applications are due by December 31st for academic year 2002-2003.

    • The International Migration Program of the Social Science Research Council seeks to foster innovative research that will advance theoretical understandings of voluntary and forced international migration to the United States, the process of settlement, and outcomes for immigrants, refugees, and native-born Americans. Dissertation Fellowships, Postdoctoral Fellowships and Minority Summer Dissertation Workshops are available. The program sent an e-mail to the NBER saying that they would like to encourage economists to apply for these fellowships.
