Hi Gwen:

The big question in this case is whether you want the budgeted amount for the year or the actual amount spent. Your answer suggests that it's the budgeted ("awarded") amount that is desired. If so, that makes this easier, because it means we don't have to run a separate program on the Accounting side of things to calculate actual spending for every project - we can just enter the total direct cost for each year at the time the other budget-year-specific information about the grant is being entered (such as the number of months of effort for each PI).

So, if you can confirm that it's the budgeted/awarded amount that you need for filling out that report, Alex can just add the additional field to the grants database (and data entry screens), and then include it in the report he has been working on.

Thanks - Wayne

My understanding is that Annual Direct Cost is the yearly direct cost of the grant, or more specifically, the direct cost amount awarded by the funder to the NBER for the current year.

Wayne and I talked about the web tool to produce Other Support Reports. Wayne noted that we can probably automate the Annual Direct Cost field as well, if we can establish exactly what that number is supposed to be. The information may already exist in the database, orsomeone upstairs in accounting may be able to get it and export it on a periodic basis.

So can someone please explain how Annual Direct Cost should be determined?
