Dear Research Colleagues -

Several years ago, the NBER began collecting and disseminating
information in the /NBER Bulletin on Aging and Health (BAH)/ on papers
that NBER affiliates had published in medical journals that preclude
pre-publication research distribution. While many papers that are subject
to publication embargoes are health-related, economists in all fields
publish in high profile general scientific journals, such as /Science,/
that have similar rules/. /Prospectively, we are going to disseminate
information on these papers as well.

Several times each year, all NBER researchers will receive a request to
submit information on recently-published papers in refereed journals,
including medical journals, that precluded pre-publication
dissemination. The resulting list of papers will be distributed by
email, with two sections: papers that are health-related, and papers
that are in other fields. All previous /Bulletin on Aging and Health/
subscribers//will automatically receive this email.Other researchers may
sign up to receive this message, and previous /BAH/ recipients may
unsubscribe, by visiting this link:

Also beginning this year, the /Bulletin on Aging and Health/ will be
replaced by two publications with more limited focus: the /Bulletin on
Health /and the /Bulletin on Retirement and Disability. /The former will
be edited by Robin McKnight, the latter by Courtney Coile.  All previous
/BAH /subscribers will automatically receive both of these new
publications. The /Bulletin on Health /will reproduce information on the
subset of papers in medical journals from the embargoed papers email. To
register to receive either of these new publications via email, or to
unsubscribe, please visit the respective links below:

Disability <http://www.nber.org/prefs/brd.pl>

I will write again in the next few days to request information on papers
that have been published in journals that restrict pre-publication
distribution.

Thank you for supporting the NBER’s research dissemination mission. All
best wishes.

Jim Poterba
