Dear NBER Researchers -

The NBER will welcome outstanding graduate students and new Ph.D.s to
the 2018 Summer Institute on a space-available basis. If you have a
student who you would like to nominate, please visit our nominations webpage

http://nber.org/nominate/backend/form?id=N_G18

and enter the student's contact information, a one-paragraph
nomination statement describing the student's research and Ph.D.
completion timetable, and the Summer Institute program for which you
would like to nominate the student. A list of Summer Institute
meetings is posted here:

http://conference.nber.org/confer/2018/SI2018/SI2018.html

Please make sure that you receive a confirmation email after you
complete your nomination, and please do not send nominations directly
to program directors. If you have difficulties with this system,
please email Rob Shannon at rshannon_at_nber.org.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, April 27. Program
directors will review the nominations shortly thereafter, and
students who are selected to participate will receive invitations
from the NBER conference department in May. I regret that the NBER
will not be able to cover students' travel and lodging expenses.

Many Summer Institute meetings are approaching the capacity of their
meeting rooms at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, and the overall Summer
Institute growth rate of recent years is not sustainable. I know
that we will not be able to accept all of the students who are
nominated, but we will strive to be as inclusive as possible.
Priority will be given to students who were on the job market this
year, or will be on the market next year.

I appreciate your understanding of the constraints. Please do not
extend additional "informal" invitations beyond those that are
managed by the NBER Conference Department. I especially ask my
Boston-based colleagues to refrain from suggesting that students
attend the meetings without invitations.

Thank you for your help in making the Summer Institute an exciting
and vibrant gathering. I look forward to seeing you in July.
