Dear EEE members (please read all FOUR items and RESPOND to #4):

1. We are delighted to welcome four new members to the EEE research program of NBER. Billy Pizer (Duke) became a Research Associate last fall (once he had returned to academia). Then two days ago, the NBER Board of Directors approved the promotion of Matt Neidell (Columbia) to Research Associate, and the appointment of three new Faculty Research Fellows: Kelsey Jack (Tufts), Nick Muller (Middlebury), and Paulina Oliva (UCSB). Welcome! See you at the SI, July 23-24.

2. If you do not have your own grants or other travel funds, then the NBER will pay for your travel to the SI and Spring meeting, even if you are not on the program. We want all members to participate! Also, on the NBER website, you should "login" to see the link to info for members (how to submit working papers, and who to ask for help at NBER). New members will receive those instructions soon; old members can click on "Forgot your password?". That will allow you to type in the email address that NBER has for you, where you will RECEIVE your username and password.

3. Please let me know about any other ideas you have for our program, including future "projects" that might involve joint efforts at funding, research, meetings, and publication.

4. All five of our spring meetings have been joint with another program (IO, Public, Labor, Productivity, and Health). Each of those programs normally has their own meeting, usually from lunch on a Thursday until about 3:30 Friday. We therefore start our meeting with lunch Friday (with about three joint papers Friday afternoon) until 2pm Saturday. The ADVANTAGES include exchanges with those other programs, and the fact that some of our members are also in that other program and can therefore travel once to both meetings. The DISADVANTAGES include the fact that SOME of those joint meetings might be under-attended, and the fact that our meetings interfere with your weekend time with family. Which do you prefer? Do you want more joint meetings, so that once in a while you can go to your other program meeting on the same trip? Or would you rather we pick our own Thursday-Friday for our own meeting?

Thanks, Don
