Dear DEV members:

Thanks so much for a terrific NBER Summer Institute. Even though it
was virtual and we weren't able to see each other in person, we hope
everyone got a lot out of seeing the papers.

We are writing with several announcements about the Fall 2020 program meeting.

The Fall Program meeting will be virtual. Given that, we've changed
the format to split the meeting over two days, as follows:
Thursday, Nov 19, from 2:30-5:00 pm eastern time.
Friday, Nov 20, from 1:30-5:00 pm eastern time.

Please mark your calendars.

Given that this event will virtual, we will try to keep things lively
and have a mix of presentation types, with some longer presentations
with group discussion, one 45 minute 'lightning round' featuring
short 5 minute presentations on a variety of DEV topics, and another
special 45 minute 'lightning round' devoted to issues related to
COVID and its implications. The program will be organized by Kate
Casey, Thomas Fujiwara, Karthik Muralidharan, Ben Olken, Chris Udry,
Eric Verhoogen and Maisy Wong.

The calls for proposals are below. We look forward to seeing you all
(virtually) in the fall.

Best regards,
Ben and Seema

Call for Proposals for DEV Fall Program Meeting

NBER Fall Program Meeting: Development Economics
November 19-20, 2020
Katherine Casey, Thomas Fujiwara, Karthik Muralidharan, Benjamin
Olken, Christopher Udry, Eric Verhoogen, and Maisy Wong, Co-organizers

The Development Economics Fall Program Meeting will be held on
Thursday, Nov 19 (2:30-5:00pm eastern time) and Friday, Nov 20
(1:30-5:00pm eastern time) virtually via Zoom.

Given the Zoom format, we will have a mix of regular length
presentations and very short (5 minute) "Lightning Round"
presentations on a wide variety of DEV-related topics. We will
consider both of these together a single submission website and
review process. Only complete papers will be considered. Important
note: We will not consider papers that provide a URL rather than an
uploaded pdf, even though the NBER submission portal allows the URL
as an option. The submission deadline is October 5 at 5pm eastern time.

In addition, we will be running a separate "Lightning Round" of
5-minute presentations of COVID related research. Given the time
sensitivity of this evolving situation, we will consider these
separately, and Seema Jayachandran will lead the review process for
these proposals. Please submit an extended abstract of 500 words
maximum (do not submit an entire paper). The submission deadline for
these is October 26 at 5pm eastern time. Please do not submit the
same paper for both calls - one or the other, please.

For co-authored submissions, please use the 'corresponding author'
button when you submit to select which author will be presenting if
the paper is selected.

Please share this information with colleagues who may have a paper
suitable for the program. Papers by researchers with and without
NBER affiliations, by early career scholars, and by researchers from
under-represented groups, are welcome.

Invitations to the meeting and logistical information will be
distributed in early November. The conference will also be
livestreamed via YouTube.

If you have any questions or need additional information please
contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's Conference Department at
