DEV Summer Institute

Dear DEV members:

* As in the previous few years, we have been allocated by Jim Poterba a
small number of slots at the NBER DEV Summer Institute for DEV program
members to invite researchers based in developing countries to attend. We'd
ask that the NBER DEV program member who invites someone commit to be at
the meeting to host the researcher and make them feel welcome. If you are
interested, please email Ben or Seema by *April 15, 2020*. We may not have
enough slots to accommodate everyone, so please do not make any travel
plans until we can confirm we have an invitation available. NBER does not
have funds to pay for travel or hotel for these invitees, so they (or you)
would need to cover these expenses.

* Just a reminder to submit your papers by noon eastern time March 18 at
the link below.

Best
Ben and Seema

Subject: NBER Summer Institute 2020, Development Economics Workshop - call
for papers
To: Benjamin A. Olken <bolken_at_mit.edu>

NBER Summer Institute Workshop: Development Economics
July 20-21, 2020
Chris Blattman, Shawn Cole, Dave Donaldson, Kelsey Jack, Seema
Jayachandran, Paul Niehaus, and Alessandra Voena, Co-organizers

The Development Economics program will meet as part of the NBER's
Summer Institute in Cambridge, MA, from the morning of Monday July 20
through about 5:30 pm on Tuesday July 21, 2020. Note that this is
roughly the same length as previous years, but we have shifted to
Monday-Tuesday, whereas in previous years we started on Sunday and
ended at lunchtime on Tuesday.

We are writing to invite you to submit your research for
consideration for the program. All research papers in development,
broadly defined, will be considered. Please submit your work by NOON
(EST) March 18 at
http://www.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI20DEV. Only complete
papers will be considered. Important note: We will not consider
papers that provide a URL rather than an uploaded pdf, even though
the NBER submission portal allows the URL as an option. You may
submit to up to two workshops. When submitting to two workshops,
please use the text box to indicate which presentation venue is your
fist choice, and also provide a brief (less than 500 character)
explanation of why the paper is well suited to multiple workshops.

We plan to have about eight papers presented with a discussant
following each presentation as well as time for further discussion of
the work.

We are also delighted to announce that Pascaline Dupas and Rohini
Pande will give Master Lectures as part of the program.

Please share this information with colleagues who may have a paper
suitable for the program. Papers by researchers with and without
NBER affiliations, by early career scholars, and by researchers from
under-represented groups, are welcome.

Unfortunately, it will not be possible invite everyone who receives
this call for papers or everyone who submits a paper.

Invitations to the meeting and logistical information will be
distributed in late April. If you have any questions or need
additional information please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's
Conference Department at 617/868-3900 or rshannon_at_nber.org.
