Dear DEV members

Our program meeting next year will be on Nov 22-23, 2019, in Cambridge,
MA; it will be our fifth joint BREAD/NBER meeting. The call for papers
will be distributed next summer. As a reminder, our meeting at next year's
Summer Institute will be on 21-23 July, beginning at lunchtime on Sunday
21st. The call for papers will be distributed early next year. Andy Foster
and Ben Olken very graciously agreed to give the Master Lectures when I
recruited them at the Summer Institute earlier this year. I am looking
forward to seeing many of you at our Fall meeting next week
(http://papers.nber.org/sched/DEVf18).

I am super grateful to Ben and Seema Jayachandran for taking on the
leadership of DEV. They will do a stellar job. DEV is strong because of
all of you - your participation in our meetings - presenting, discussing,
commenting, interacting and contributing to building our field - along
with the incredibly high quality and breadth of the science you produce
and distribute through the DEV working papers.

I am very, very grateful to all of you, especially the many people who
have given their time for the program including all of you who helped
select papers for and organize our meetings. It is impossible to overstate
the debt I owe to the DEV Advisory Committee members - Abhijit Banerjee,
Esther Duflo, Andy Foster, Penny Goldberg, Chang-Tai Hsieh, Eliana La
Ferrara, Dilip Mookherjee, Ben Olken and Chris Udry. They have been
nothing short of extraordinary and have all played a key role in building
our program. And, of course, we would not have a program without Jim
Poterba's unflinching support; he has been pivotal in getting us to where
we are today.

It's been an absolute blast serving all of you as director of DEV. I am
very thankful to be a part of such a fantastic, vibrant field with so many
inspiring colleagues.

Happy Thanksgiving and all best wishes,

Duncan
