Dear NBER DEV members

I am writing to let you know that the NBER Development Economics Program will
meet during the third week of the Summer Institute again this year. Our meeting
will be on Thursday and Friday July 23/24. We experimented with discussants at
the 2014 SI and, based on feedback from SI participants, we plan to continue
that format with a few changes. The call for papers will be distributed in the
next few days. Submissions will be due by the end of March. Andrew Foster and
Tavneet Suri will select the program with me. I hope you will submit your work
and also plan to attend the meeting. I am looking forward to another active,
engaging and fun SI.

Our Fall program meeting will be joint with BREAD and will be on Friday 25 and
Saturday 26 September in Cambridge, MA. A call for papers will be distributed
in the summer. (We are not planning to have discussants at that meeting.)

I am pleased to report that the NBER working papers in development continues to
be very active: nearly 150 papers were added in 2014. The papers are listed at
http://nber.org/papersbyprog/DEV.html NBER papers are very visible and I hope
you will continue to submit your research in development to the series.

As you know, the NBER provides absolutely first rate support for grants. If you
are planning to submit a grant to the NIH or NSF, I encourage you to consider
using the NBER services. It seems to be getting tougher and tougher to get
funding from those agencies and I think many investigators have found it very
helpful to get feeback on a proposal before it is submitted, particularly when
one is early in one's career. If you would like help in this regard, please
contact me and I will do whatever I can.

If you have any suggestions for DEV, please let me know.

Wishing you all the very best for 2015,

Duncan
