Dear DAE Program Members -

I am very grateful to the many program members who have made time to
talk with me in the months since Claudia Goldin announced that she was
ready to pass the baton of DAE program leadership. I have learned a
great deal about the factors that have contributed to the program's
success, and about current developments in economic history, through
this process.

I am delighted to announce that Leah Platt Boustan of UCLA and Bill
Collins of Vanderbilt have agreed to serve as co-directors of the DAE
Program when Claudia's term concludes at the end of this academic year.
Leah, whose recent research focuses on the labor market consequences of
immigration and migration, is a professor of economics at UCLA. She has
been an active member of the program since 2007, and a a Research
Associate since 2012. Bill, the Terence E. Adderley Jr. Professor of
Economics at Vanderbilt, has been a program member since 1999 and a
Research Associate since 2004. His research focuses on the history of
cities and urban renewal programs, as well as on migration and racial
disparities in earnings. I look forward to working with Leah and Bill
to build on the program's past successes and to launch new initiatives,
and I hope that you will join me in welcoming them to their new roles.

I also hope that you will save the evening of TUESDAY, JULY 11, the
second day of the 2017 DAE Summer Institute, for a dinner when we will
collectively thank Claudia for her contributions as program director. I
look forward to seeing you then -- all best wishes.
