To the DAE Family:
I have several items to share with you.
First off, I have appointed three new FRFs and they have each accepted the appointment. They are:
James Feigenbaum (Assistant Professor, BU; currently post-doc at Princeton's IR section). James has interests in labor economics and economic mobility and has written several papers on economic mobility in the US during the Great Depression and across the twentieth century.
Martin Fiszbein (Assistant Professor, BU). Martin has interests in economic growth, development and urban economics. He has written on agricultural diversity and long-run growth.
Daniel Gross (Assistant Professor, HBS). Daniel is in the Strategy Unit at HBS. He has written on standardization in nineteenth century railroads and is beginning a project on innovation in the US during the 1940s and 1950s.
I hope you can welcome all three at our Spring Program Meeting.
That gets to the second topic - the Spring Program Meeting. I have just asked Carl Beck for a date in March for our Spring Program Meeting. We usually have the first Saturday but that looks occupied. We will probably get March 11 or March 18, so please mark both dates on your calendars.
I usually send out requests for submission in mid to late December for our Program Meeting and I will do that as soon as Carl gives me a date. But if you want to send me a suggestion for a paper of yours, please do so now. An abstract or a draft of the paper is appreciated.
I was hoping to be able to tell you who my successor is but Jim Poterba has been inordinately busy this fall. He will make a decision within the next month and then we will have a new leader. We will both run the Spring Program Meeting.
