To All DAE Family Members:

I hope you enjoyed the Summer Institute as much as I did. Gary, Carola and Hoyt are to be congratulated for a highly successful SI and thanked for their organizational skills.

Charlie Calomiris, Karen Clay and Trevon Logan have agreed to be the organizing committee for the 2015 and 2016 DAE Summer Institute. I welcome innovations to our meetings such as we have had in the past (e.g., data sessions with economists from agencies; Federal Reserve @ 100). Please feel free to inform the organizing committee of novel ideas for the program. As always, regular paper submissions go directly to the NBER website and will be requested next Spring.

We are a special program in the NBER and try hard to welcome young economic historians as well as those outside economic history. The poster session is one way we assist our graduate students and we invite many non-economic historians to present at the SI. In addition, we have appointed our quota of new FRFs every year.

We have grown substantially as a group and that is apparent in the crowd we assemble in the Feldstein Conference room every summer. If we get much bigger we will be banished (as all other groups have been) to the Sonesta. We are the last remaining group to have our SI in 1050. We can stay here because we are lower-maintenance than other groups.

I know that each of you has a research agenda that is primarily in economic history but is also in other fields. Please publish your working papers, especially those germane to the DAE, in the NBER Working Paper series. The distribution of more DAE papers gives us greater visibility and our work improves with scrutiny from others. If you have not been submitting your working papers to the NBER series, please do so. Suggestions for conferences and books for the monograph series should go to me.

The Spring Program Meeting is Saturday March 7, 2015. Please mark it on your calendars.

Best wishes,

Claudia
