One of the purposes of the Summer Institute is to foster interactions among programs that share common interests. The three most closely related programs to Health Economics are Health Care, Aging, and Children. Kirsten Foss Davis has informed me that each of these three programs will hold Summer Institutes during the week of Monday, July 30 through Friday, August 3. Therefore, I have decided to change the date of the Health Economics Summer Institute so that the program will meet during this week. I still have in mind either a one-day meeting with six papers or a one and a half day meeting with nine papers. I am tentatively scheduling the meeting for Friday, August 3 or Thursday and Friday, August 2-3. It may , however, be desirable to avoid meeting on the same day as the Children's Program. That program met for only one day last summer, and a number of research associates have dual affiliations with both programs. I will select definite dates after the Children's Program has announced its meeting dates.

I originally avoided the week of July 30 through August 3 because the Third International Health Economics Association Conference will be held July 22-25 in York, England. But I think that the benefits of interacting with other programs outweigh the costs of losing a few potential participants who decide to travel after the York Conference.
