Carnegie-Rochester Conference on Public Policy

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Advances in Labor Market Dynamics

April 2011

The Carnegie-Rochester Conference on Public Policy is now soliciting
papers for a conference on "Advances in Labor Market Dynamics." This
Conference will be held in New York University on April 15-16, 2011.
The papers and comments are slated for publication in a special issue of
the Journal of Monetary Economics in January 2012.

There have been important changes in labor markets in the past three
decades (e.g., changes in labor force participation of men and women,
changes in residential mobility, the Great Moderation and Great
Recession). At the same time, we have developed new data sources, at
both micro and macro levels, that facilitate the detailed analysis of
both households and firms behavior. Significant progress has been made
incorporating heterogeneous behaviors of households and firms into
highly aggregated models.

We seek proposals that advance theoretical, empirical, and quantitative
research in labor markets. We seek papers that focus on policy related
issues across a broad spectrum of topics, including employment dynamics,
income and wealth inequality, human capital formation and fiscal policy.

The editors invite detailed abstracts of no more than two pages
describing the proposed research paper. (If a preliminary version of
the paper is available, authors may include it with their abstract.)
Proposals should be submitted electronically to Sue North
(north_at_simon.rochester.edu), Editorial Assistant for the Journal of
Monetary Economics, no later than September 15, 2010. The editors, in
collaboration with the Carnegie-Rochester Advisory Board, will make the
final selection of papers to be included in the Conference. Authors
will be notified by October 1, 2010 if their paper has been selected.
Authors will receive an honorarium of $2500 and be expected to present
their paper at the Conference. The papers should represent original
research not presented or published elsewhere. Since the papers are
intended for publication, authors will not be able to publish or reprint
the work elsewhere without the permission of the editors and publisher.
Please note that the editors will contact authors only if their paper is
accepted
