Dear NBER Family Members -

I am writing with several NBER news items that I hope you will find of
interest.

First, this year's Summer Institute will take place from Monday, July 12
through Friday, August 6. The Econometric Methodology Lectures will
focus on "Financial Economics." The lectures, which will be delivered
by Yacine Ait-Sahalia, Michael Brandt, Andrew Lo, and Sydney Ludvigson,
will be on Thursday - Friday, July 15-16. Further details of the
lecture content will be posted later this spring. This year's Martin
Feldstein Lecture will be presented by Dr. Roger Ferguson on Wednesday
afternoon, July 28. Roger is the current President and CEO of
TIAA-CREF. He is the former Vice-Chair of the Federal Reserve Board,
and a former member of the NBER Board of Directors. His lecture will
address the challenges of providing retirement security for an aging
population.

Second, our director of research and grants management, Alterra Milone,
will be on maternity leave for the next two months. In her absence, the
many research-related functions that she usually handles will be
distributed among other NBER staff members. Here is a brief guide that
indicates where to direct your questions in Alterra's absence:

If you encounter any unexpected difficulties in the grant administration
process, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Finally, the NBER recently celebrated its 90th birthday. Plans for the
NBER were finalized at the December 1919 AEA meetings, held at the
LaSalle Hotel in Chicago. The NBER received its corporate charter from
the State of New York on January 23, 1920. In the Cambridge office, we
celebrated the NBER's first nine decades in late January with a cake
that tracks time in terms of NBER business cycles:

All best wishes for the Spring Semester. I look forward to seeing you
at the 2010 Summer Institute if not before.

P.S. Some NBER researchers have told me that they have difficulty
accessing working papers when they are not connected to the internet
through computers at their home institution. There is a simple solution
to this problem - you can always access working papers by logging in
through the NBER website, www.nber.org. There is a login link in the
upper right corner of the home page. All NBER researchers have accounts
with the userid "firstname_lastname" and there is a link that will mail
your password to you. When you log in, you will see your NBER
conference invitations, and have access to working papers and other NBER
publications.
