Important IT Update

Dear Staff Colleagues -

Earlier this week, the monitoring tools that track workflows on the
NBER network detected some unusual activity.  Further investigation
revealed that an unauthorized user had accessed the network.  Our IT
team reacted swiftly, and using both internal and external resources,
appears to have limited any fallout from this breach, and they have
contacted anyone whose account may have been compromised.  Our security
consultants have praised the prompt and effective response to this
discovery, but emphasized that reducing the risk profile in situations
like this requires action by everyone with network access.  We all need
to change our passwords, and to do so right away.

Erin will be writing to you shortly to describe the steps you need
to take.  This is not a phishing test, but a genuine request, and I
would greatly appreciate your immediate attention to it.  I know that
this is an inconvenience, but it is essential to avoid the risk that
some unauthorized party wreaks havoc on our IT systems.

Thank you very much for your help and attention.

Jim
