Best wishes for the New Year

Dear Staff Colleagues -

As we close the books on 2020, please allow me to thank you once again
for your above-and-beyond efforts over the last ten months. We have
faced a global pandemic, the deepest recession in nearly a century,
stay-at-home orders, and a set of challenges that we never imagined or
planned for.  Your resourcefulness, hard work, and sheer determination
to stay the course have not only enabled the NBER to continue
functioning, but in many cases have raised our game with innovations
that will be with us long after the pandemic has faded into our rear
view mirrors.  You have found ways to collaborate and communicate
remotely, and when old ways of doing things no longer worked, you
invented new and better ones. We have collectively supported a research
community that eagerly joined the global race to understand and respond
to the pandemic, and our efforts to secure research funding, to carry
out research, to explain and disseminate research findings, and to
convene researchers and policy experts, have made an important
contribution.  I have always been incredibly proud of the work that we
do together, and thankful for the privilege of leading such a talented
and enthusiastic team, but this year has been extraordinary.  It has
truly been our finest hour.

As we mark this New Year's Eve, please take a moment for reflection, and
allow yourself a victory lap for all your accomplishments of this year.
I hope that you have had  wonderful holiday season, and I wish you all
the best for 2021.

Jim
