The NBER Japan Project plans to hold its 2021 conference on December 16-17, 2021 in Tokyo. This is later than the usual dates, but it increases the possibility of an in-person meeting. If the public health situation in Japan in late September suggests that an in-person meeting is not feasible, the meeting will shift to an on-line format.
The conference will be jointly sponsored by the NBER, the Australia-Japan Research Centre, the Center for Advanced Research in Finance, and the Center on Japanese Economy and Business. The conference will focus on research on all aspects of the Japanese economy. Papers will be selected on the basis of overall scientific quality. The deadline for submission of a paper is July 8, 2021. Submissions from researchers with and without NBER affiliations, from early career scholars and from researchers from under-represented groups are welcome. Please do not submit papers that will be published by December 2021.
To have a paper considered for presentation, please upload a PDF file to the following website by midnight EDT on July 8, 2021:
Completed papers, abstracts, and outlines are all welcome, but preference will be given to completed papers. The program will be announced by early August. As a sample of the range of topics that have been discussed at prior Japan Project meetings can be found at:
We look forward to seeing your work and hope that you will join us in Tokyo in December.
