My work occupies the space between abstraction and representation. Pictorial representation is provided, but not necessarily associated with a specific instance. I call them abstracted narratives. since all of the components are present - the nouns, the adjectives, the context - but the verbs are not; the narrative is not fixed but 'abstracted' - many narratives are possible, and it is likewise possible to find no narrative.

I am interested in the building up of subjects and objects to a point that borders on but excludes clear narrative - or the knowing and relation of a story. The subject and context may appear to be laden with personal meaning, but yet elicit interpretation. The inner logic of the painting must be so tight as to almost risk defying the audience's entry, but yet seduce them. The details may be significant yet mundane, known but unknown.

My intention is to create paintings where one might receive the satisfaction of the concrete, but the intellectual dissatisfaction and stimuli of the abstract. Such paintings might pose questions about description - What does representation mean? How does the relative equality or inequality of what is represented figure in the construction and destruction of a story? What lies beyond a story?
