The files in this directory are SAS datasets and documentation
for the Surveys of Consumer Finances from 1983, 1986, 1989, and
1992.  All of the households in the 1986 survey were part of the
1983 survey.  Some of the households in the 1989 survey were part
of the 1983 survey.  See the documentation for these surveys for
instructions on using surveys from different years as panels.

The data files are:

raw.ssd01: Raw data from SCF83 & SCF86
recode.ssd01: Cleaned and imputed data from SCF83 & SCF86
scf89c.ssd01: The five replicate per obs. data from SCF89
scf92fc.ssd01: The five replicate per obs. data from SCF92
scf92rwc.ssd01: Additional weights for SCF92
scf8389p.ssd01: The three replicate per obs. data from SCF83-89 panel

The documentation files are:

scf83.cdb: ASCII file containing the codebook for recode.ssd01 (1983 vars)
scf86.cdb: ASCII file containing the codebook for recode.ssd01 (1986 vars)
scf89.cdb: ASCII file containing the codebook for scf89c.ssd01
scf92.cdb: ASCII file containing the working codebook for pub92.ssd01
scf92cdb.zip: PKZIP archive of WP5.1 questionnaire
scf8389t.cdb: ASCII file containing the codebook for scf8389p.ssd01

Notes:

1) The documentation for raw.ssd01 is in hardcopy only.
2) The 1992 and 1989 surveys have the same variable names for
   almost all items.
3) As of 05/29/96, pub92.ssd01 (The first public release of SCF92) and its
   codebook (scf92w.cdb) have been replaced by scf92fc.ssd01 and scf92.cdb.
