From tdd2@cdc.gov Fri Jan 17 12:22:59 2003 Date: Fri, 17 Jan 2003 10:32:11 -0500 From: "Dunn, Thomas D." To: 'Jean Roth' Subject: Anomaly on Multiple Cause of Death file for 2000 Dear Ms. Roth, I wanted to alert you to an anomaly on the Multiple Cause of Death file for 2000. Code 55 in the State of Occurrence field (record locations 21-22) in the file sent to you is for New York City. Code 33 is for upstate New York. To obtain figures for the entire State of New York you will have to combine records coded to 33 with those coded to 55. Normally, this is done here during final preparation of the Mortality file so that code 33 in the version sent out to the public represents all of New York, which is why there is no mention of 55 in the list of variables for State of Occurrence in the record layout. Apparently there was an oversight during preparation of the 2000 file.
