RE: Call for Papers, Joint CRIW-NBER Summer Institute Session

The NBER and CRIW are continuing an initiative whose goal is to
promote professional interactions among producers and users of
government economic statistics. To that end, in summer 2012 the
NBER's Productivity and Technical Change Program and the CRIW will
jointly sponsor a workshop to be held on Monday, July 16 and Tuesday,
July 17 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This year we wish to devote part of the program to papers using or
developing new data sources for tracking economic activity. This
will include research papers that use or create novel datasets that
suggest the need for new economic data or indicators. Examples of
what we have in mind include: studies that use data from various
e-commerce firms to track prices or quantities; indicators derived
from private sources such as payroll processors, credit bureaus, and
on-line job boards; and newly exploited administrative record data --
in short, any potential new source of information that might inform
the national accounts or economic measurement more broadly. Jim
Poterba has kindly offered to help us organize this part of the program.

We to invite you to upload proposed papers in PDF format or a format
readable by Word to
http://www.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI12PRCR. The deadline
for submissions is March 30. If the paper is incomplete you may send
an abstract or rough draft now, with the finished paper due by June
30. We will only contact submitters whose papers are accepted.

Travel expenses for presenters and discussants will be reimbursed in
accordance with the NBER travel guidelines. Expenses for other
participants cannot be covered. The NBER has secured a block of
rooms at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge. Information regarding
making hotel reservations will be included in your invitation.

If you have any questions, please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's
Conference Department at 617/868-3900 or rshannon_at_nber.org.
