Dear Program Members -
I have just received messages from David Wise and from Marty Feldstein
about the National Institute of Aging's interest in funding research that
is based on two data sets: the National Longitudinal Mortality Study (NLMS)
and the Longitudinal Employer Household Dynamics (LEHD). The LEHD may be a
particularly valuable source of information on employer-sponsored benefits
such as health insurance, and will also include information on unemployment
insurance and receipt of benefits from some other programs. For those of
you working on issues that overlap with the data in these data sets, this
may be an ideal opportunity to frame a project and submit a grant
application. The fact that NIA is looking for proposals probably signals
higher-than-usual prospects for funding.
Detailed information about this data is attached. It is also worth
noting that NIA pays for a Research Assistant at the Census Bureau to
assist grantees. For more information, contact Georgeanne Patmios at
NIA. Her phone number is (301) 496-3136; email is
patmiosg@nia.nih.gov. Good luck!
