I am pleased to tell you that Mervyn King, a member of the NBER's Monetary
Economics Program and Public Economics Program, has been appointed Governor
of the Bank of England. He is currently Deputy Governor and will move into
the top spot next July. Mervyn was a very active member of the two
programs while he was at LSE but has continued to come to some meetings and
will be participating in an NBER conference in January.
