RE: Call for Papers, Joint CRIW-NBER Summer Institute Session

The NBER and CRIW are continuing an initiative whose goal is to
promote professional interactions among producers and users of
government economic statistics. To that end, in summer 2013 the
NBER's Productivity and Technical Change Program and the CRIW will
jointly sponsor a workshop to be held on Monday, July 15 and Tuesday,
July 16 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

This year we wish to devote part of the program to papers on the
theme of accounting for the costs of natural disasters. We will
consider papers on practical or conceptual issues on, but not limited
to, topics such as estimating the output loss from a natural
disaster, valuing the capital destroyed in such an event, and
calculating the real output of insurance against rare but major events.

In addition, part of the workshop will meet jointly with the NBER's
Macro Productivity group. Papers at the intersection of productivity
and macroeconomics (broadly interpreted to encompass topics such as
trade and industrial organization) are especially welcome this year.

We invite you to upload proposed papers in PDF format or a format
readable by Microsoft Word to
http://www.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=SI13PRCR.

The deadline for submissions is March 30. We will contact only
submitters whose papers are accepted.

The NBER will pay for reasonable travel expenses for presenters,
subject to NBER guidelines. Only one author per paper will be
reimbursed. The NBER Conference Department will assist in making
hotel arrangements.

If you have any questions, please contact Rob Shannon in the NBER's
Conference Department at 617/868-3900 or rshannon_at_nber.org.
