NBER colleagues--

Each year the World Bank organizes the Annual Bank Conference on
Development Economics (ABCDE), which is one of the world's best known
series of conferences for the presentation of new knowledge on
development. This year's ABCDE will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on
May 30 - June 2, 2010. The overall theme of the conference
is: Development Challenges in a Post-crisis World. Plenary session
themes include: Commons and the Environment/Green Growth; Thinking on
Current Debates on Development Strategy; Fragile States/Political Economy;
Measuring Welfare/GDP (happiness); and Social Issues/Human
Development/Safety Nets. Parallel session topics can be complementary to
the main themes of the conference; however they can also be freestanding -
covering current important development issues.

We are inviting individuals and institutions to submit a proposal(s) for
Parallel Sessions at ABCDE Sweden. While development of the proposals
would be in the organizer's hands, we would like to bring a diverse range
of views on current development challenges to the conference. Thus,
participants can engage in debate and the exchange of new ideas and
different perspectives. Session organizers may want to consider issues of
particular relevance to their region or areas of ongoing research, as well
as what is important for future policy.

Parallel sessions will be fully funded by the Government of Sweden
(facilities, travel, accommodation, and meals for up to 3
speakers/discussants per parallel session).

Please find attached the proposal form. The deadline for the submission of
proposals is Friday, January 29, 2010. The proposals will be reviewed by
the ABCDE Steering Committee and the organizers of selected proposals will
be notified no later than February 28, 2010. If you have any questions
please contact Aehyung Kim (akim3_at_worldbank.org) or Leita Jones
(Ljones2_at_worldbank.org). I also attach a draft agenda for your reference.

Thanks and regards,
