Micro Evidence on Innovation in Developing Economies

Maastricht, the Netherlands
May 31-June 1st, 2007

The Maastricht Economic and social Research and training centre on
Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT) and the INIR are pleased to announce
the upcoming conference on Micro Evidence on Innovation in Developing
Countries, to be held in Maastricht (Netherlands) from the 31st of May to
the 1st of June, 2007.

The goal of the conference is to bring together researchers from around the
world to discuss the different dimensions and importance of innovation in
developing countries and, to compare models and available data that would
allow for international comparisons and benchmarking. Case studies and
contributions based on micro data from firm or household surveys are
particularly welcome.

For a number of years, various countries have conducted innovation surveys
and/or investment climate surveys. It would be of great interest to discuss
what has been learned from these studies and to what extent these studies
can be used to compare innovation performances across countries and to
guide innovation policy. It would also be of great benefit to discuss how
these surveys might be improved or complemented through the development of
new surveys.

Examples of topics that could be covered:

• Innovation, Productivity and Firm Performance
• Innovation, Learning and Human Capital
• Technology Adoption and Diffusion
• Innovation and Employment
• Innovation and the Role of Foreign Firms
• Innovation and the Role of Financial Institutions
